Important Visitor Information

For safety reasons and seasonal weather conditions, the road to Kuwohi (formerly Clingmans Dome) is typically closed from December 1 through March 31. Closure dates may vary slightly depending on weather.

A valid parking tag is required for any vehicle parked within Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Parking tags can be purchased in advance or on-site, depending on availability.

To avoid peak congestion, plan to arrive before 10:00 a.m. or after 5:00 p.m., especially during weekends and peak seasons.

Weather conditions at higher elevations can change quickly year-round. Visitors are encouraged to dress in layers and bring a jacket, even during the summer months, to stay comfortable and prepared.

Many visitors combine a stop at Kuwohi with other things to do near Robbinsville, including scenic drives, hiking trails, and outdoor day trips throughout Western North Carolina.
